Artistic Call Mostrami for Umberto Cesari
On May 26th will officially start the 4th Edition of the Umberto Cesari Art Contest to select the new creative design to be featured on the labels of our MOMA – MyOwnMasterpiece wine line.
The Umberto Cesari Art Contest was born from our desire to support emerging artists and new talents by offering them the opportunity to create a visual artwork that best expresses the identity of the MOMA wine collection. The name MOMA stands for MyOwnMAsterpiece, a clear reference to both the excellence of the artwork featured on the label and the high quality of the wine itself.
The journey began with the first label, which showcased “Le Bagnanti,” a work by one of the greatest Italian painters of the twentieth century: the renowned Giorgio Morandi. This inspired the idea to continue this artistic collaboration through a recurring contest.
The first edition was held in 2011 in partnership with the Fine Arts Academies of Bologna and Ravenna and crowned Elena Valentini with her piece Paper Glass.
The second edition took place in 2015 in collaboration with UQAM, the Fine Arts Academies of Urbino and Venice. The winning artwork was Futurwine by Donatella Carollo.
The third edition followed in 2019, and the winning piece Golden Glass by Beatrice Pani is currently featured on the labels of the MOMA wine line.
For this fourth edition, we have partnered with Mostrami Srl, a social enterprise (https://mostra-mi.it/) that promotes contemporary art as a driver of social development. Founded in 2014, Mostrami has built a collective of over 1,400 young artists, a community of more than 36,000 contemporary art enthusiasts, and a network of around 80 institutional and corporate partners. Since its inception, the Mostrami project has aimed to stimulate dialogue around social issues through art, engaging a wide audience and fostering a more active and aware citizenry.
This partnership will also allow us to include the initiative in our 2025 sustainability report. Mostrami will manage all phases of the open call in collaboration with Umberto Cesari.
Theme of the Call is “Wine and wine culture as the centerpiece of convivial moments in our lives—between the right timing and responsible consumption.”
This edition of the competition is open to photographers, graphic designers, illustrators, painters, and digital artists operating in Italy and abroad, of any gender and without age restrictions. Participants are invited to visually interpret the philosophy and the four core values underpinning this artistic call:
- Heritage, sustainability, and innovation, the founding pillars of Umberto Cesari
- Responsible consumption
- Quality and the time required to truly experience wine in a convivial setting
- The role of wine in our food and cultural tradition
Participation is completely free of charge, and the deadline for submission is June 15th at 23:59.
Artists may apply only by registering for the Mostrami mailing list via the form on the website www.mostramifactory.it. Registration is required to receive all the necessary information and instructions for applying.
A shortlist of six (6) finalist artworks will be selected within the end of July by Mostrami and Umberto Cesari commission and will be submitted to public voting and evaluation by a jury panel selected by both organizations. The winner will be announced at the end of August.
After the selection:
- The winner will receive a cash prize of €2,500 (before taxes).
- The other five finalists will receive a prize in kind consisting of three boxes of wine each (1 box MOMA white, 1 box MOMA red, and MOMA Sparkling).
