The 2025 harvest has begun on the hills of Castel San Pietro Terme and Montecatone di Imola.
The weather trend, marked by recurring rainfall throughout the season, has kept the vineyard soils well hydrated, allowing the vines to reach harvest with healthy vegetation and no signs of water stress unlike last year.
Following the heat in June, excellent diurnal temperature variations were maintained, which contributed to a very good ripening of the grapes from various standpoints: excellent balance between sugars and acids, optimal pH levels, well-developed aromas, and good phenolic maturity of the skins.
We expect good aromatic complexity in the wines, along with intense and brilliant colors.
The first phase of the harvest, which began on August 18, is in line with the timing of recent years. This will allow us to produce wines with good balance, moderate alcohol content, and lively acidity.
The first grapes to enter the cellar were the early-ripening varieties: Chardonnay and Sauvignon, along with Pignoletto destined to become Moma Spumante.
We will continue with Merlot, which is showing wonderfully fruity aromas and even higher acidity levels than in previous years.
We have high expectations for Merlese, destined to become UMBERTO. This year, it is not as early as in past vintages and is evolving very well, with a later harvest similar to Sangiovese—expected around mid-September.
We plan to conclude the harvest with Longanesi, which has always been the perfect companion to Sangiovese for the award-winning Tauleto.
Climate change remains a constant, presenting new challenges each year. For some time now, we have implemented timely and sustainable practices to help the vines better cope with excessive heat, sudden temperature spikes, and heavy rainfall.
